Yoga Classes

All yoga asanas (postures) are designed to improve balance, strength and flexibilty.  By using the breath and concentrated yet relaxed mental effort, a state conducive to peacefulness is attained.

Fusion Belly Dance

style Bellydance combined with Flow Yoga and Core Strengthening.

Beginners Yoga

The very basics form a foundation for solid practice. Students are introduced to concepts onto which the poses are systematically built. Attention is paid to good postural alignment, effective breathing and relaxation of effort. This is an all levels class, everyone is welcome.

Karma Klass

A complimentary class taught by GYS teachers and new teachers to the studio. A great way to try out new styles and teachers. Please feel free to leave a donation, with proceeds going to the current charity we are helping to support.

Flow Yoga

Flow Yoga encourages students to develop a strong foundation of breath and body awareness, along with sound alignment principles, so that we can move safely and effectively into Sun Salutations, flowing sequences of poses, and vinyasas. These classes always include modifications to either soften or intensify the practice to accommodate individual needs. Students of all levels welcome, some yoga experience is recommended, but all will find opportunities to deepen their practice here.

Kids' Yoga

This fun class will encourage your child to keep opening to life with creativity, curiosity, kindness, strength, courage, discipline and love. Each child's unique gifts and challenges with be honoured in a supportive environment. This class introduces your child to some basic principles of yoga----body and breath awareness, yoga asanas, and yogic dance. For kid's ages 5 - 12, parents are welcome to stay for first class.

Mixed Levels Yoga

Students with a good background in the language of yoga and ease in most postures, including holding poses longer and practicing short vinyasas (flowing sequences). These classes always include modifications to either soften or intensify the practice to accommodate individual needs. Students of all levels welcome, some yoga experience is recommended, but all will find opportunities to deepen their practice here. All ages and levels welcome.

Restorative Restshops

Specialized sequencing using specific support in postures, nourish the nervous and immune systems. Highly restorative, the blanket, bolster and cushion support create a session conducive to deep relaxation. All levels welcome.

Seniors' Yoga

This class is well suited to more mature folks who value the importance of maintaining good posture, flexibilty and strength. The aging process challenges balance and diminished reflexes yet offers wonderful wisdom and insights. A chair is often used as an aid to the postures, which are offered in a gentle and supportive environment.

Students learn the fundamental principles from the classic groups of postures, including an introduction to arm balances and inverted poses. These classes always include modifications to either soften or intensify the practice to accommodate individual needs. This is an all levels class.

Yoga Level 2

As more confidence develops in inverted postures and arm balances, students begin to explore variations in a wider range of asanas. This class is not recommended beginners, but classes always include modifications to either soften or intensify the practice to accommodate individual needs.

EveryBody Stretch

EveryBody Stretch is a guided stretch class using the emotive tones of classical music to enhance and develop every stretch and movement and is most popular with the 55 plus age group but it is open for EveryBODY! Participants are encouraged to stretch comfortably within their own limits. They will feel the benefits of a regular stretching routine which can include lower blood pressure, better brain function and an increase in self confidence and self esteem. Join Catherine in this class and stretch out your body, relax your mind and enrich your soul in this fun supportive class.

Feldenkrais

A somatic educational system designed by Moshe Feldenkrais (1904 to1984). The Feldenkrais method is designed to improve movement repertoire, aiming to expand and refine the use of the self through awareness, in order to reduce pain or limitations in movement, and promote general well-being. It does this by first helping students become aware of their existing patterns of action, and second, by guiding them in the discovery of additional possibilities. It is useful for anyone who wishes to improve their abilities.

NIA

Nia is derived from a combination of Dance Arts, Healing Arts and Martial Arts. Drawing inspiration and movement from these places allows an integration of body, mind and spirit with every routine. The 9 movement modalities in Nia are: Aikido, Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do (Martial Arts); Jazz, Modern, Duncan (Dance Arts); Alexander Technique, the Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais and Yoga (Healing Arts).The Nia Routines are generally one hour in length. As classes develop and people become more familiar with the Technique, classes can start/finish a few minutes before/after the routine to allow dancers circle time to share their experience, challenges and triumphs. An established Nia class with regular participants often gives people an opportunity to grow, heal and flourish. Multi-hour Workshops are also a great way to dance Nia and address ongoing issues. All levels welcome.

The Art of Asha

The Art of Asha is a fusion of the asian arts; Qigong, Tai Qi, Yoga and various other martial arts. Through these disciplines exercises will be given for building strength, flexibility, balance, spinal alignment, and will help to increase circulation and more. All levels are welcome.

Zumba Dance Fitness

Zumba Dance Fitness uses Latin and International music and dance movement to create a dynamic, exhilarating and effective fitness program. It integrates aerobic, interval and resistance training.

UBUNTU

Ubuntu is an ancient Zulu word meaning "I am because we are". Her chant circles are non-denominational. They are designed to ease the participant into the experience of collectively singing intentionally uplifting chants from many cultures. Barbara offers a safe and supportive environment in which to experience the joy of chanting. The session ends with a five minute silent meditation. All voices are welcome.

5Rhythms

The 5Rhythms is a simple yet profound moving meditation practice that encourages freedom and fluidity in our movement and in our lives. You are invited to let your body move, finding your unique dance guided by the 5Rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. The intention of this class is to offer an introduction to the 5Rhythms and an opportunity to practice with a visiting teacher.

During a class one can expect a guided tour through the 5Rhythms, where the teacher can use music, examples and exercises to co-create a meditation practice based in movement.
